Bible Reading in 2012

For 2013 I haven't decided what plan I'll use. I've printed out a few Bible reading plans and I'm looking over them. If you are interested in being apart of a group that will encourage Bible reading I have 2 blogger friends that can help.
Becky @ Operation Actually Read Bible
She has a Perpetual Bible Reading Challenge, plus an Operation Deepen Faith Challenge.
and
Debbi Totmann Martin @ Sojourner: Between Worlds
Debbi has listed MANY choices of Bible reading plans---all available On-line.

I'm reposting this from my additional page (located at the top of my blog) for Bible Reading Challenge 2012.
I began the year using the Prof. Grant Horner's Bible Reading System. I did not continue using this plan, but switched to my own personal Bible reading.

Old Testament:
Genesis (50 chapters) finished 2-22 ESV,
Exodus (40 chapters) finished 4-10 ESV,
Leviticus (27 chapters) finished 4-21 ESV,
Numbers (36 chapters) finished 5-5 ESV,

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!.
Happy New Year!
"Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Gory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Luke 2:8-14 NJKV

Review: The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W.Tozer

Title: The Knowledge of the Holy
Author: A.W.Tozer (1897-1963)
Publisher: Harper Collins Publishers 1978
Genre: Non-fiction
Labels: God, Knowing God, God's Attributes
Format: Paperback
Age: Adult
Pages: 128
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."  page 1 Jesus asked a similar question in Mathew 16:13 and Luke 9:18, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"
In The Knowledge of the Holy, Tozer attempts in human words to explain the attributes of God. To capture in words the majesty of God, or His sovereignty, or His infinitude----is impossible. Because, human words with human explanations fall short. Tozer has been interpreted and described as an evangelical mystic, because of his ethereal writing, and his use of quotes from Catholic mystics.
The word mystic means, "a person who seeks to by contemplation and self-surrender to obtain unity with or absorption into the deity or the ultimate …

Pre-Release Info on Tricia Goyer and Ocienna Fleiss' New Book Love Finds You in Glacier Bay

This sounds good! Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams—a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests—her former fiancĂ©, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures. In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover—as Ellie did—that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

"It is actually about our common human tendency to think we no longer need Jesus. We have moved on from the cross. Review: Neighbors and Wise Men, Sacred Encounters In A Portland Pub and Other Unexpected Places by Tony Kriz

Title: Neighbors and Wise Men, Sacred Encounters In A Portland Pub and Other Unexpected Places
Author: Tony Kriz
Publisher: Thomas Nelson September 18, 2012
Genre: Non-fiction
Labels: Biography, Testimony  Format: Paperback Age: Adult Pages: 256 Rating: 4 Stars - Very Good
Tony Kriz with youthful vigor and passion became a missionary in eastern Europe. His ministry was with the Muslims that lived in Albania. His determination bordering on obsession was to prove himself as a Christian missionary. His gusto was short lived. It had been all about what he wanted to accomplish. He burned out. He was sent back home to attend seminary in Oregon. As a missionary he’d expected to bring the Gospel message to people who needed the hope of Christ Jesus. Back at home in Oregon he began to frequent a pub, who’s regulars ministered to him in unexpected encounters. Tony’s story is candid. He speaks from his heart about a period in his life when he had doubts about his belief in Jesus and Christianity. He felt…

Question of the Week From Thoughts That Move

Each Friday Wendy over @ Thoughts That Move asks a question, all she asks is that we give a reason for our answer.
"Tis the season for being stilled."
"What stills you?" This is the hardest time of the year to be still. Even before Thanksgiving, just the thought, the anticipation, of the holiday season is over-whelming. I no longer have young children at home. I am though busy with caring for a home, a 90 year old dad, blogging, writing book reviews, and other daily activities.
The problem is not that I'm busy, it is that I am not prioritizing my busyness. I'm hurried and stressed, because after all I chose to add additional activities to this holiday season, which then makes me even more stressed. The problem source is me. So what is the answer? Remember the short-haired blonde fitness instructor that would say, "enough already!" I believe that is what I should ask myself, enough Annette, don't add anymore additional duties to your list. As f…

Have We Forgotten Our First Love?

I hear a lot of arguments about the Bible: its validity, interpretation, what's the best translation, and its relevance for our time. Most Christian blogs and websites focus on culture or moral issues including those of political nature. Several tackle controversial topics that often lead to harsh opinions and arguments in the comment boxes. Controversy really does cause attention, and it sells. Sometimes I feel like there's a whole lot of talking going on and not enough living out what we proclaim. We're just a cacophony of noise, with a facade of empty pockets. Each of us eager to express our opinion of what we feel knowledgeable about, which can come across as arrogant, and gives fodder to a world that doesn't know Christ.
But in this tangled web of dogma. Have we forgotten our first love?
"I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, a…

End of the Year Update and Looking Ahead at 2013

This time of the year I work on blog maintenance. I clean up my two blogs, and I plan goals for 2013.
For now I'll be leaving the blog photograph and color theme.
I've moved all blog buttons, website links, etc. to its own page located on the top of this blog.
In 2013 one of my goals is to keep the blog clean. I've noticed that the more buttons and advertisement that is on a blog the longer it takes for a page to load. This can cause some readers to grow impatient and move on.

Operation Actually Read Bible (authored by Becky)  has a Perpetual Challenge and a
